Finishes of Masonry Outdoor Fireplaces

Posted in Business on August 29th, 2009

Masonry outdoor fireplaces are a great addition to any patio or backyard, yet it is often difficult to choose which type of finish to use. The only hard and fast rule to this is to use a material that will complement the existing structure and design of your home, but even this leaves a lot of room for variations. This is because there are a good number of materials that can be used to construct a fireplace.

Bricks are common materials for fireplaces, both indoors and outdoors, because they are very affordable, have a high compressive strength, and have a low porosity. They are also durable and can be expected to last a long time. Bricks have been in use for ages, giving them a sense of timelessness and beauty. In addition to this, they are easy to maintain and can be washed with water and simple cleaning solutions.

Stones are also a favorite material. There are, of course, several kinds of stones of different colors that can be used for this purpose. These include marble, stucco, slate, sandstone, granite, and cast coral. You will need to determine and decide which of these different stones best suits your home, and perhaps your own personality. Apart from being handsome, stones are also strong, resistant to fire, long-lasting, and weather-resistant.
